Pool Facts

History of our pool

McCarthy pool was named for Albert G. McCarthy III.  Mr. McCarthy, a lawyer and real estate developer was executive director of the Loyola Foundation for Catholic Charities from 1975 to 2007.  During his tenure the organization gave away more than $40 million to 5,000 Catholic missionaires. Mr. Mcarthy passed away in August of 2007.

  • Length:  25 yards
  • Depth:  3 1/2 feet - 5 feet
  • Lanes:   8
  • Temperature:  Between 80-82 degrees
  • 72 lengths = 1 mile  (36 laps)

Diving Well

  • Depth:   13 feet in the middle
  • Temperature:  Between 80-82 degrees
  • 1 one meter diving board
  • 1  three meter diving board
  • Diving boards only open at posted times

Other Useful Information:

  • The entire pool is closed from 3:15-5:30pm Monday-Friday, September - February for varsity swimming and diving practice.
  • The lifeguards are in charge of the safety of the pool.  Please see them if you have a question or problem. 
  • Any patron who wishes to bring more than five guests in to use the pool (birthday parties etc.) should contact the Director of Aquatics, Bethany Bower at (202) 687-2407. 
  • Please make sure to check out the pool rules before your first visit.
